Throwback till öspelen

Dagen bjöd på en rejäl dos minnen från mina år inom International Island Games Association (IIGA), öspelen. Dr Matt McDowell från The University of Edinburgh kom till Åland för att göra research inför en kommande bok om de öspel som sedan 1985 utvecklat idrott på öar över hela världen och som nu står inför Orkney Island Games 2025.

Ifjol våras lämnade jag den ordförandepost jag haft sedan 2007 för att helt koncentrera mina krafter på rollen som talman för Ålands lagting. Jag ångrar såklart inte det, talmansuppdraget är hedrande, inspirerande och extremt utvecklande.Ändå… gör ett samtal som idag, med Dr McDowell, att massor av minnen kommer tillbaka och dessa njuter jag av just nu och tänker på alla dessa fantastiska människor, från hela världen, jag haft förmånen att arbeta tillsammans med, ni finns alla kvar i mitt hjärta. Tack för besöket Matt, ha fina dagar på Åland och ser fram mot historiken när den kommer.

The day brought back a good dose of memories from my years within the IIGA Executive Committer. Dr Matt McDowell from The University of Edinburgh came to Åland to do research for a forthcoming book about the games that have developed sport on islands all over the world since 1985 and are now facing the Orkney Island Games 2025.

Last spring I left the chairmanship I had held since 2007 to fully concentrate my energies on the role of Speaker of the Åland Parliament. I certainly don't regret it, the Speakership is an honour, an inspiring and extremely developing role.

Still... a conversation like today, with Dr McDowell, brings back lots of memories and I'm enjoying them right now and thinking of all these fantastic people, from all over the world, I've had the privilege of working with, you're all still in my heart. Thanks for the visit Matt, have a nice day in Åland and I look forward to the history when it comes.
